Last week was an important victory for the Crusaders, however it was a costly one. Numerous key people were injured early on, and some young guys who thought they might just "get their feet wet" with a few plays, were thrown into the fire for the entire game. We were very happy for these guys to get the experience and to see that they can help us win games. Considering all the new people and the late arrival of our import QB and offensive coordinator, we are very pleased that we came away with a victory. However this was certainly not a pretty game, and we will need to get better fast in order to continue winning games. Improvement every week is our mantra.

Limhamn is next on our schedule, a game of obvious significance for us. Word is that Limhamn, like us, has undergone significant changes in personnel since we last met on the field. As a result, it is very difficult to know what we will get on Saturday. Our focus this week, as it will be for much of this first half of the season, is simply to work on being better football players. 

As stated above, our main emphasis is right now is to improve week to week as football players. With that in mind, here are some key issues for us going into this game:

On offense last week, our only consistent weapon was the legs of our QB, Cedric Townsend. Hopefully, Cedric's athletic ability can keep us going early on, and the rest of us can catch up with him as the season progresses. We will be working on moving our feet in pass protection and staying with the blocker longer. We also intend to do a better job of adjusting the protection to pressure. The receivers will need to improve their spacing, getting off the LOS, and adjusting to the ball. We will also be looking at different ways to use the skill and versatility of both Joakim Holm and Marcus Seger. 

On defense we were rarely stressed last week, however there were numerous issues to improve on if we are to compete against the elite teams this year. We had some coverage breakdowns that gave Tyresö some excellent chances for big plays that they fortunately missed on. On the defensive front, we will need to be better at rushing half a man rather than getting stuck on the blocker or cut to the ground. Limhamn effectively used wide splits and cut blocks against us last year. On the perimeter we need to be better at attacking blocks and closing down space rather than avoiding them and creating space.

Limhamn började säsongen med sin byeweek och gör således sin seriepremiär i Karlstad den här veckan. Värmlänningarna slog Tyresö med 20-0 förra veckan och såg ut att ha ett par växlar till både offensivt som defensivt. Vårt förvar måste kontrollera RB Marcus Seger och hålla QB Cedric Townsend under uppsikt. Förra veckans favoritmottagare Joakim Holm är ett ständigt hot som våra DB måste ge tät bevakning. Anfallsmässigt måste vi ta det som Karlstads försvar ger oss, de kommer att pressa vår offensiva linje genom en del blitzar och vår kommunikation måste fungera. När bollen väl är i våra ”playmakers” händer så gäller det att slå en eller två försvarare.
